Burnout can mean different things to people to different people. It can happen so slowly and insidiously that we slide to either end of the burnout continuum without really noticing.
For some, it’s the always-be-busy-never-stop-moving lifestyle. The hustle for conditional happiness and self-love in the form of an “If, then” statement.
“If only I make that next promotion, then I will be successful.”
“If I lose 5 pounds, then I’ll love my body.”
“If I finally xyz, then I’ll be happy.”
Sound familiar?
For others, burnout is a feeling of low energy. Let’s call it as it is: exhaustion. Where you just can’t. You care, but you just can’t find the energy for anything else. Maybe you can’t even articulate how you are feeling, and that’s OK too.
Wherever you find yourself on this continuum, situated in the context of COVID-19, anti-racism, and decolonization, we hear you and we are here for you.
